Recreation Services Coordinator

The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Services Coordinator to fill one (1) vacancy in the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and / or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

The Recreation Services Coordinator plans, organizes, leads, and conducts the recreational programming and community services of a community area or center. Provides responsible and technical staff assistance and support. Requires responsibility for analyzing community and group recreational needs, in selecting and adapting programs to meet those needs, in procuring the materials and resources necessary for implementing recreation programs, and in making the most effective use of the facilities and staff. Ability and skill to supervise, direct and coordinate the work of lower level staff; coordinate and oversee usage of assigned recreational facilities; elicit community and organizational support for the assigned community recreation center; interpret and explain City recreation program policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with community stakeholders, community recreation center patrons, and community advisory committee members.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

• Plan, organize, lead, and participate in recreation services and programming for a neighborhood center, aquatics center, or a community service program; assist in the direction of a recreational activity for a community area, either in a recreational center or for an area program.
• Participate in program planning meetings and assist in developing program and activity plans and reviewing current programs.
• Organize athletic, craft, social and instructional activities; oversee, coordinate, and participate in various games and sporting events; manage general facility and equipment rentals.
• Develop, encourage, and foster participant interest and enthusiasm; prepare recreation club records of membership and participation.
• Plan and conduct group tours and outings; plan and facilitate city wide events and programs; communicate with local community groups and agencies.
• Requisition, procure, and facilitate the purchasing of recreational supplies and materials, maintain an inventory, and control their use.
• Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the youth gang violence reduction program; identify, address, implement, and ensure articulation of community services with the youth outreach efforts.
• Facilitate, coordinate, orchestrate, and implement agreements between agencies relative to delivery of programs and services.
• Identify barriers to service and work collaboratively with individual organizations and agencies to improve service delivery to at-risk or gang involved youth.
• Develop and maintain working relationships between public agencies, non-profit organizations, and the community; develop marketing and activity guides, recruit instructors and sponsors, and assists with the information output for the recreation programs.
• Evaluate, review, and monitor programs and services to determine if goals and objectives are being met; perform various administration, budgeting, and other activities for the benefit of the programs.
• Provide training, meetings, and implement staff and volunteer development strategies; assist with selection and staff management including timecard and assignment delegation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education : Equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation or a closely related field. Two additional years of experience in group recreational activity leadership may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis. Experience : Three years of experience in group recreational activity leadership. Licenses and Certifications : Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid, appropriate class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Highly Desired Qualifications :
