DRL’s attorneys advise local governments and public agencies throughout Southern California on all aspects of public law, with an emphasis on municipal code enforcement, land use and other real estate matters. DRL’s attorneys regularly represent approximately 50 cities in both state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate level, in matters ranging from nuisance abatement to civil rights.

A successful DRL attorney will represent local governments throughout all phases of the litigation process, as well as city staff at city council and other public meetings. As forward-facing representatives of the government and trial attorneys, it is essential that DRL attorneys have an accessible communication style, self-confidence, and a heightened attention to detail. Candidates must also have excellent academic credentials, current California Bar membership, superior research and writing skills and a commitment to collaboration and teamwork. Past litigation experience is also necessary.

DRL offers a range of opportunities for attorneys to work on significant and complex issues. The effectiveness of our office depends upon the excellence and diversity of our attorneys’ talent. We recognize the need for attorneys of varied backgrounds and skills and offer an inclusive environment that relies on diverse perspectives to ensure that we advocate effectively on behalf of the residents of the communities that we serve.

Given the significant amount of time our attorneys spend in court, it is essential that DRL attorneys have an accessible communications style, self-confidence, and a heightened attention to detail. Candidates must also have excellent academic credentials, current California Bar membership, superior research and writing skills and a commitment to collaboration and teamwork.

The annual salary range for this role is $100,000-$150,000 and represents DRL’s best estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation offered will depend upon a number of factors including, but not limited to years of practice, experience or specialty with relevant subject matters, and business origination. In addition to salaried compensation, the firm provides annual discretionary and business origination bonuses, and a robust offering of health, dental and life insurance, 401k, professional development, and other benefits. Outside of required courtroom duties, DRL facilitates remote or hybrid work arrangements depending on experience and demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
