This multifaceted facility stands as a key contributor to both environmental sustainability and energy security in the Pacific Northwest.

The Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the LNG facility by performing expert preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on critical systems including analyzers, transmitters, valve actuators, electrical switchgear, and PLC / DCS controls. With a strong focus on maximizing equipment performance and reliability, this technician utilizes advanced diagnostic tools and technical expertise to resolve complex issues and drive plant productivity. By adhering to stringent safety protocols and regulatory standards, the IC&E Technician helps optimize operations, enhance profitability, and maintain the highest standards of operational excellence.

Your scope of responsibility as IC&E Technician will include the following primary functions :

  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of transmitters, transducers, valve actuators, valve positioners, Continuous Emission Monitoring System analyzers, gas chromatographs, BTU analyzers, and gas detection equipment.
  • Ensure that instrumentation and control systems are functioning correctly to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the LNG facility.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical switchgear equipment. Work with electrical systems, including those operating at voltages up to 4,160 volts, ensuring they are in proper working order.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of PLCs, DCSs, relays, and control systems to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Utilize P&ID's, plant drawings, wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, and equipment manuals for preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Follow relevant procedures, redline, and create as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations in areas of assignment.
  • Utilize hand and power-driven tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Prioritize safety utilizing the facility's Safety Management System, safe work permits, lock-out / tag-out procedures and personal protective equipment.
  • Maximize LNG production and auxiliary equipment efficiency. Contribute to plant profitability by eliminating waste, maintaining productivity, and participating in maintenance activities.
  • Work effectively with team members, establish good working relations with colleagues, and provide assistance with clean-up and housekeeping.
  • Understand and follow regulatory requirements to ensure legal and safe facility operation.
  • Write and maintain equipment logs and reports professionally. Keep records of repairs, maintenance, and calibration activities.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, regulations, and best practices related to IC&E systems to improve skills and knowledge.

  • Create Work Requests for identified field maintenance needs.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to support efficient LNG facility operation.

Safety is a core value at NAES, and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to remain mentally alert and work safely at all times. Employees must also adhere to all safety warnings and posted signs while on company property. Additionally, they are required to follow all NAES safety rules and procedures. Adherence to these safety responsibilities is one of the key factors in the evaluation of each employee's performance.

The Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and will receive general direction from plant management. This position may provide guidance to hourly personnel on plant operations and maintenance activities. It also requires working with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure proper support and coordination.

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

The LNG facility environment may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, cryogenic temperatures, extreme weather conditions, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment as well as varying outdoor weather conditions at the Port of Tacoma.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks / respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), cryogenic PPE, hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

The IC&E Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. On call status will periodically be required.

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $53 to $59 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.

We are seeking a qualified Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician with hands-on experience in a utility scale industrial environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and a track record of contributing effectively within a team environment to support reliable plant performance.

  • An Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Extensive experience as an Instrument, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician or in a similar role within a related industry is highly desirable, with prior experience in an operating or generating plant particularly valued. Experience in an LNG facility is a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment layouts and plant systems.
  • Hands-on background working with voltages up to 4,160 volts.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing electrical switchgear equipment.
  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, DCSs, and relays.
  • Skilled in performing non-routine repairs and calibrations of transmitters, transducers, valve actuators, and valve limit-torque devices.
  • Proficient in interpreting and utilizing complex plant drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, and manuals.
  • Capable of creating, redlining, and comprehending procedures and instructions specific to assigned areas.
  • Adept at reading, interpreting, and responding to written instructions and logbook entries.
  • Known for collaborating effectively with colleagues, contributing in team settings, and applying creative solutions to unique IC&E challenges.
  • Recognized for excellent oral and written communication, strong organizational abilities, and proficient computer skills.
  • Respected for maturity, initiative, leadership, sound judgment, and dependability in directing others.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
  • NAES Corporation is a leading provider of operations, maintenance, and engineering services for energy facilities.
