About the role
We are hiring a seasoned Technical Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be the company’s primary technical accounting authority, shaping accounting policy, partnering with cross‑functional teams, and advising on the implications of new business models. Your work will influence strategy and help ensure accurate, compliant financial reporting as Anthropic scales.
Responsibilities
- Act as the principal technical accounting authority on revenue recognition, equity transactions, leases, business combinations, and emerging issues.
- Partner with product, legal, tax, treasury, and business operations to assess accounting impacts of new products, partnerships, and strategic transactions.
- Provide real‑time accounting consultation across the organization and build strong relationships with business partners.
- Lead the development & implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and technical accounting memos that comply with US GAAP and SEC requirements.
- Conduct impact assessments, develop policies, and provide cross‑functional education for new or revised accounting standards.
- Oversee preparation of technical accounting documentation for quarterly & annual statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors on technical accounting matters and drive timely resolution of audit inquiries.
- Automate and improve processes across the technical accounting function, leveraging technology for efficiency and scalability.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership, translating complex matters into actionable insights.
- Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends to proactively identify potential accounting impacts.
- Support special projects such as system implementations, internal control enhancements, and other ad‑hoc initiatives.
- Develop talent in finance through training, mentorship, and technical guidance.
Qualifications
12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4–6 years in leadership or highly collaborative roles.Active CPA license.Significant Big‑4 accounting firm experience in a technical capacity.In‑house experience at high‑growth technology companies.Deep expertise in US GAAP / SEC reporting and proven ability to research / document complex conclusions.Track record of navigating large, matrixed organizations and influencing stakeholders at all levels.Exceptional written & verbal communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to varied audiences.Ability to blend strategic thinking with hands‑on technical work.Experience building and developing high‑performing teams.Proficiency with accounting systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel.Strong project management & organizational skills.Comfortable working in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments.Proactive, solutions‑oriented problem‑solver.Strong candidates may also

Compensation
Base salary : $230,000 – $300,000 USD. Total compensation includes equity, benefits, and potential incentive pay.
Logistics
Education requirements : Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy : Staff must be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more presence.
