Overview
The Network Engineer I provides support for the technology department, employees and customers by configuring and maintaining network hardware for optimal performance and security. This position identifies and resolves network issues using diagnostic tools and techniques and monitors network performance, analyzes network traffic, and addresses potential issues to minimize downtime. The Network Engineer I implements and maintains network security measures to protect against threats and vulnerabilities. This position reports to the Infrastructure Manager and provides excellent service and support while demonstrating the Company's values and supporting the mission.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for the technology department, employees and customers
- Configure and maintain network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers, for optimal performance and security
- Monitor network performance, analyze network traffic, and proactively address potential issues to minimize downtime
- Identify and resolve network issues, such as connectivity problems, latency, and packet loss, using diagnostic tools and techniques
- Work with management and Level III engineers to maintain technology department service level allowance for ticket and customer resolution
- Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control lists, to protect against threats and vulnerabilities
- Create and maintain accurate network documentation including standard operating procedures, network diagrams, asset inventories, and configurations to support troubleshooting and planning
- Assist in planning and executing network upgrades including hardware replacements and software updates for scalability and reliability
- Continuously assess network performance and recommend improvements such as optimizing routing protocols and traffic management
- Provide technical support to end-users and IT teams, troubleshoot network-related issues and assist with connectivity problems
- Administer network policies and procedures for compliance with industry standards and best practices
- Collaborate with network equipment vendors, manage vendor relationships, and procure network hardware and software as needed
- Implement network changes following change management processes, including testing and validation
- Contribute to network disaster recovery planning and participate in recovery efforts in the event of network failures or disasters
- Provide on-call as part of team rotation 24 / 7 support of VoIP telephony systems and LAN / SDWAN / WLAN network hardware, software, and configuration, including weekends and after hours
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, security analysts, and application developers, on network-related projects and initiatives
- Provide training and mentorship to other team members as needed
Qualifications
