PURPOSE :
To ensure the safety and health of all employees on residential framing job sites by proactively identifying hazards, enforcing safety protocols, and fostering a culture of safety compliance. This role is critical for maintaining OSHA compliance, reducing workplace injuries, and supporting operational excellence in framing and truss installation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Site Safety Inspections & Audits
- Conduct daily and weekly safety inspections of framing job sites, focusing on fall protection, ladder safety, power tool usage, and truss installation.
- Inspect scaffolding, guardrails, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for compliance and functionality.
- Perform Critical Behavior Observations (CBO) for all framing activities, including elevated work and material handling.
- Safety Policy Implementation
- Enforce safety policies and procedures specific to residential framing, including fall protection, ladders, and equipment operation.
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA, and other relevant codes.
- Training & Education
- Conduct New Employee Orientation (NEO) safety training, emphasizing framing-specific hazards and safe work practices.
- Lead toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings on topics such as fall protection, trip hazards, and safe use of nail guns and saws.
- Train employees on emergency procedures.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incident reports; provide regular updates to management.
- Compliance & Communication
- Communicate directly with liability carriers and regulatory agencies regarding safety-related incidents, timely proper reporting, and documentation requests.
- Stay current on new safety regulations and industry best practices; disseminate updates to field crews and management.
- Field Collaboration
- Work closely with field superintendents and foremen to ensure safety-related tools and equipment are in acceptable condition.
- Assist in enforcing safety practices and conduct Critical Behavior Observations (CBOs) independently of foremen.
- PPE & Equipment Oversight
- Ensure all laborers and representatives are equipped with and properly wear PPE, including hard hats, harnesses, eye protection, and respiratory protection as required for framing tasks.
- Bilingual Communication
- Bilingual or Spanish-speaking skills are preferred to effectively communicate safety protocols to a diverse workforce.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required.30-hour OSHA Outreach Training Certification required.1–3 years' experience as a Safety Specialist or similar role in construction, preferably residential framing.Strong understanding of safety regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to framing operations.SKILLS & ABILITIES
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to train and mentor field staff.Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and basic computer skills.Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.Attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally; high physical mobility required.Ability to work at heights and in outdoor environments typical of framing job sites.Bilingual (Spanish / English) preferred.INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC FOCUS
Fall Protection : Rigorous enforcement of fall protection standards for elevated work, truss setting, and roof framing.Tool Safety : Daily inspection and maintenance of nail guns, saws, and other power tools; training on safe operation.Material Handling : Safe lifting and transport of lumber, trusses, and framing components.Hazard Communication : Clear signage and communication of jobsite hazards, including trip hazards and overhead work.Incident Response : Immediate response and documentation of injuries, with follow-up on modified duty and return-to-work protocols.
