Job Summary
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse multi-site department whose mission is to create a healthier world through bold innovation in public health, education, technology and research. This position sets the highest standards for professionalism and competency in providing high quality customer service, diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients within UCDHS and its affiliates. Our laboratories are licensed by the State of California, certified by CUA, accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP), AABB, and Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and located in three distinct facilities : Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP); Pathology Building; and the Specialty Testing Center (STC).
This position supports departmental goals through the performance of timely and accurate analytical blood and body fluid analysis in one or more of the technical sections including Transfusion Services, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Toxicology, Hematology / Hemostasis / Special Coagulation, Immunology / Flow Cytometry, Microbiology, Point of Care (POC), and Molecular Pathology.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position
- California State License for Clinical Laboratory Scientist is required.
- Equivalent specialty license or certificate such as a Public Health Microbiologist, Clinical Chemistry Scientist, Clinical Hematology Scientist, or Clinical immunohematology Scientist, is acceptable only if working only in those subspecialties.
- License must be current and renewed as required the incumbent is also required to acquire 24 units of continuing education biannually or as required to maintain licensure.
- Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies / procedures, and / or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Must possess California State Issued Clinical Laboratory Science license as appropriate for job responsibilities (current and renewed every two years as required).
- Point of care positions require two years of experience in nonwaived testing.
- 1. Technical knowledge in one or more of the following sections : Transfusion Services, Chemistry, Flow Cytometry, Hematology / Hemostasis / Special Coagulation, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology, Point of Care Testing, Special Chemistry, and / or Toxicology. 2. Knowledge of hospital and laboratory regulations and requirements (e.g. CDPH, CAP, TJC, AABB, FDA, NAACLS, FACT, OSHA, CLIA) for testing and laboratory safety. 3. Ability to recognize processes that could lead to failures; ability to resolve and report errors and aberrant results appropriately. 4. Possess technical knowledge to troubleshoot instrument / equipment problems and utilize appropriate resources to resolve problems. 5. Ability to utilize effective listening and questioning techniques to educate trainees, medical staff, residents and physicians in clear and concise manner. 6. Point of care positions require two years of experience in nonwaived testing.

Technical knowledge in one or more of the following sections : Transfusion Services, Chemistry, Flow Cytometry, Hematology / Hemostasis / Special Coagulation, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology, Point of Care Testing, Special Chemistry, and / or Toxicology.Knowledge of quality assurance, instrument and method validation, quality system essentials, continuous quality improvement, metrics, data analysis and audit processes.Possess outstanding written and oral communication skills.Ability to lead discussions and training, to articulate test procedures, and to make effective presentations. Possess excellent organization, time management, prioritization, strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and assist coworkers when needed, to accept directions from direct and indirect supervisors, to make changes based on supervisor's evaluation.Ability to use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), EPIC EMR, RALS, POC QC suite, hospital incident reporting systems (e.g. RL Solutions).Knowledge of personal computer, word processing, data management, and spreadsheet software.Ability to maintain reports, documents and records according to policy and regulations.Ability to work prioritize and work well under pressure and remain flexible in changing and fast-paced work environment and meet turnaround times while maintaining a high level of work performance.Ability to maintain the security of confidential information, exercise judgment, tact and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential. information and situations.Ability to function and work in a diverse work environment.Key Responsibilities

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
