Junior / Assistant / Associate / Full Specialist- Basbaum Lab
Department of Anatomy
The Basbaum lab is seeking a Junior / Assistant / Associate / Full Specialist to join our group and contribute to new and ongoing projects. Our lab has two major focuses, which are to investigate (1) the mechanisms that underlie the generation of acute and persistent pain and (2) how general anesthetics act on the brain to alter consciousness and the perception of pain. The first project involves pharmacological evaluation in the mouse of the pain-relieving effects of different novel compounds in different acute and chronic pain models. In addition, the candidate will perform brain imaging of the activity of large populations of neurons in the mouse brain during the administration of general anesthetics and other compounds. The candidate will be responsible for preparing mice for the recordings, which involves surgical implantation of a lens through which a head mounted camera can monitor activity. Additionally, the candidate will assist with managing day-to-day lab operations, and perform general lab duties.
