Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability & Environmental Center Of Excellence (Coe) Leader to join our Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) team at Ashland LLC. This is a highly visible, significant role within the Company and the Global EHS&S Leadership Team. This position will report to the Global Director for EHS&S.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following :
Develop and implement a robust ESG strategy aligned with global standards (GHG Protocol, CDP, GRI) and evolving regulations.
Serve as the subject matter expert for air, water, and waste, providing training and ongoing compliance support across the organization.
Interpret complex environmental data, evaluate emerging risks, and identify opportunities for improvement in greenhouse gas emissions, water stewardship, and hazardous waste management.
Integrate science-based targets and leverage frameworks like ISO 14001 and EcoVadis to ensure ambitious and achievable sustainability goals.
Coordinate cross-functional teams to deploy programs in life cycle assessment, emissions analysis, air quality, water conservation, and waste minimization.
Oversee certification and reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate collection and submission of ESG-related data, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions.
Prepare facilities for audits and inspections, develop compliance protocols, and guide site and functional leaders on legislative requirements.
Lead the development and performance tracking of corporate-level programs in air quality, water usage, and hazardous waste minimization.
Manage environmental permitting, conduct internal and third-party audits, and resolve regulatory issues in coordination with legal and government affairs.
Monitor US and international regulatory developments, assess operational impacts, and recommend proactive strategies for compliance.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following :
At least 710 years of experience in sustainability, ESG management, or related industry roles, with deep knowledge of GHG Protocol, CDP, and GRI.
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, environmental science, or a related technical discipline.
Proven experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Expertise in air, water, and waste regulations with experience in international regulations.
Direct experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and EcoVadis assessments.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and hands-on experience with HSE data systems and digital reporting platforms.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills for internal and external presentations.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time, including visits to manufacturing sites, stakeholder meetings, and industry conferences.
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit :
Advanced degrees or certifications in sustainability or environmental management.
Experience with science-based targets and current ESG frameworks.
Familiarity with EcoVadis and other sustainability assessment platforms.
Experience leading cross-functional teams in a global environment.
Demonstrated success in developing and implementing corporate-level sustainability initiatives.
Experience with digital reporting and environmental data management systems.
