Description :

The unit sees a variety of patients ranging from hematology, oncology, and sickle cell.

Patients present with urgent and non-urgent conditions but are typically more stable than the emergency room population.

Most patients will be discharged home from this unit, but some will be admitted.

This unit sets appointments for patients based on calls received from their primary team or oncologist.

Patients may be coming from another area of the hospital or directly from home.

This is a smaller unit, leading to strong relationships between staff members and a supportive environment for staff.

Nurses have the opportunity to develop numerous skills and create relationships with patients in a less acute setting.

Patient diagnoses may include sickle cell crisis, fever, abdominal pain, uncontrolled pain, anemia, nausea, vomiting, and dehydration.

The team is staffed 24 / 7 by Advanced Practice Providers and Nurses.

The emergency department physicians supervise and attend to the patients in this unit.

Additional requirements include the ability to provide care for patients experiencing various medical conditions.

Candidates are expected to complete necessary credentialing requirements promptly.
