Duties
- Design electronic components, software, products, or systems for security applications.
- Analyze customer needs and determine the requirements, capacity, and cost for developing an electronic / integrated circuit system plan.
- Develop maintenance and testing procedures for electronic components and equipment.
- Evaluate systems and recommend design modifications or equipment repair.
- Inspect electronic equipment, instruments, and systems to ensure they meet safety and security standards and applicable regulations.

Basic Requirements
Degree : Engineering. The program must lead to a bachelors degree in engineering with at least one ABET-accredited program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as described below.Combination of education and experience college-level education, training, and / or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and a good understanding of engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following :Professional registration or licensure Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, DC, Guam, or Puerto Rico.Written Test Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or other required licensure test.Specified academic courses At least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences with specified courses included.Related curriculum A bachelor's degree in a related scientific field may be accepted if there is at least 1 year of professional engineering experience and an established plan of intensive training or equivalent experience.Note : An applicant who meets basic requirements may qualify for positions in any branch of engineering unless selective factors indicate otherwise.
Requirements
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the PG-0855-14 level. Specialized experience includes :
Guidance and advice on electronic chips and smartcard technologies, developments and trends.Interpreting customer specifications to ensure products meet standards; addressing issues related to chip, smartcard, and security integrated chip technology performance.Communicating with industry experts, vendors, and technical staff to manage chip, smartcard, and security integrated chip technologies configuration processes.Additional qualification information can be found from Office of Personnel Management guidance. Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
