Job Purpose

The Outreach & Intake Specialist will support CSC’s role in the California Workplace Outreach Project (CWOP)—a statewide initiative to educate workers about their rights and workplace protections. The Specialist will conduct direct outreach through community canvassing, phone banking, and tabling at events to inform workers of labor laws, workplace protections, and how to access resources. This role also includes conducting intake and connecting individuals to services and partner resources for follow-up support.

Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach & Education

  • Conduct community canvassing in worker-dense areas such as neighborhoods, shopping corridors, and commercial districts.
  • Conduct phone banking to reach targeted populations, including immigrant and limited-English proficient workers.
  • Provide accurate, accessible information about labor laws, wage theft, health and safety, and anti-retaliation protections.
  • Distribute educational materials and resources in multiple languages.
  • Represent CSC at outreach events, community tabling opportunities, and informational sessions.

Intake & Referral

  • Conduct intake with individuals to assess needs and determine appropriate program or service referrals
  • Collect contact information and demographic data for reporting and follow-up purposes.
  • Refer workers to appropriate CSC programs or partner organizations for case management or legal services.
  • Program Support

  • Track outreach, education, and referral activities using designated tools or databases.
  • Participate in required training sessions and staff meetings to stay current on labor law updates and outreach strategies.
  • Support logistics and setup for outreach-related events.
  • Other assigned duties.
  • Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or community outreach experience preferred.
  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred (Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish in addition to English).
  • Experience in outreach, canvassing, or community engagement is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear speaking and cultural sensitivity.
  • Organized, dependable, and committed to serving low-income and immigrant communities.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet community needs.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Ability to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Able to constantly position yourself to maintain files in file cabinets such as reaching with hands and arms, kneeling, crouching, etc.
  • The ability to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information is crucial for this role.
