Role : MPD Operator (Managed Pressure Drilling Operator)

Position Description :
The MPD Operator is responsible for the set-up, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) equipment and systems on onshore or offshore drilling rigs. The role ensures that MPD operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry and company standards. The MPD Operator works closely with drilling crews and third-party service providers to maintain optimal wellbore pressure and contribute to overall well integrity and safety.
Key Responsibilities :
- Install, commission, operate, monitor, and maintain MPD equipment (including chokes, manifolds, control systems, and rotating control devices) according to project requirements and safety policies.
- Collaborate with drilling and well engineering teams to execute MPD operations per the approved drilling program.
- Operate automated control panels and monitoring systems to maintain wellbore pressure within prescribed limits; respond to pressure variances and alarms.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs or adjustments as required to minimize downtime.
- Record operational data, pressure readings, and system adjustments accurately in reports and logs.
- Participate in pre-job planning, hazard assessments, and safety meetings; comply with all HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) procedures and policies.
- Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and testing of MPD equipment to ensure integrity and compliance with specifications.
- Support rig-up and rig-down of MPD equipment prior to / during mobilization and demobilization of drilling operation.
- Communicate and coordinate with rig personnel and district engineers during MPD campaigns and in emergency situations.
- Mentor or train junior operators and assist in competency development for MPD operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting process or procedural enhancements.
Qualifications / Requirements :
Experience with MPD equipment and drilling operations in the oil and gas industry.Strong knowledge of drilling rig equipment, hydraulics, and well control principles.Certification in well control (e.g. IWCF or IADC) preferred.Familiarity with automated control systems and instrumentation.Ability to read and interpret technical documents, operating manuals, and well programs.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.Willingness to work rotational shifts, including nights and weekends, and travel to onshore / offshore locations as required.Physically fit to work in demanding offshore or remote environments; ability to pass drug / alcohol screenings and medical evaluations.Pay : $58 / hr
