We are in search of a highly motivated Environmental Health and Safety Specialist who will be a key player in evaluating and administering our Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and initiatives. Your role will focus on minimizing risks associated with safety and compliance while aligning with OSHA, VOSH, and other legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
Possess a solid understanding of the construction process and implement process-specific safety management.
Review and monitor the safety plans and implementation status of contractors throughout the construction phases.
Assess and approve daily work plans from contractors, managing simultaneous operations effectively.
Gather and oversee safety and health feedback from contractors.
Conduct joint site inspections with contractor managers to verify and ensure corrective actions for any deficiencies.
Evaluate contractor safety performance through key performance indicators, including accident rates and training participation.
Implement appropriate measures for addressing repeated violations, including formal warnings and potential work stoppages.
Assess working conditions to identify unsafe situations or equipment hazards.
Oversee that all personnel, including contractors, fully understand and adhere to safety legal requirements.
Assist contractors in accident investigations to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.
Develop emergency preparedness plans and create resources for employees to navigate potential dangers, reviewing contractor emergency plans and communication systems as necessary.
Support factory construction efforts by managing relationships with government agencies, consultants, insurers, and legal stakeholders.
Conduct regular HSE patrols, compile HSE reports, and ensure rigorous internal reporting.
Maintain and publish safety KPIs on a weekly and cumulative basis.
Stay updated on relevant safety and environmental regulations, practices, tools, and processes, communicating necessary changes throughout the organization.
Perform additional related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
As the factory progresses towards completion by the end of 2027 and production commences, responsibilities may expand to include :
Developing workplace safety and health policies, alongside necessary safety standards and updates.
Creating and delivering comprehensive safety education programs for all employees.
Implementing health promotion programs focused on employee wellness.
Achieving and retaining international safety management certifications.
Responding effectively to customer audits regarding health, safety, and environment (HSE).
Education and Experience Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of safety experience in the construction or manufacturing sector.
BCSP certification is preferred.
Experience complying with industry regulations.
Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
CPR / First Aid certification is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Authorization to work in the US.
