Finance Manager
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance Manager to join our dynamic team. The Finance Manager is a key management leader of the Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center (CIVOC). This position is responsible for overseeing all financial management functions, supervising the finance & accounting function, and supporting CIVOCs mission by ensuring financial health, compliance, and effective resource allocation. The Finance Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and plays a lead role in implementing best practices and collaborating with organizational leadership. This role requires strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of financial concepts, including corporate finance, budgeting, and risk management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Oversee the overall Finance & accounting operations of the organization.
- Develop & implement accounting policies & procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ensure that appropriate & accurate financial books & records are maintained & that such books & records are closed in accordance with the established annual reporting schedule.
- Prepare financial statements & reports, including budget preparation, monitoring, & forecasting.
- Reporting to include monthly, Quarterly, & Annual Reports
- Provide required reports to the Executive Director & assist in the work of the Board Finance Committee as scheduled.
- Manage cash flow & ensure compliance with all financial regulations & debt covenants.
- Coordinate external audits, conduct research on open questions or issues, & respond promptly to the external audit partner to ensure compliance.
- Keep the Executive Director informed of all such matters of significance.
- Supervise & mentor accounting staff; stay current on the latest accounting trends, rules, & government regulations affecting non-profits.
- Develop & document a system of Enterprise Risk Management
- Report immediately to the Executive Director & Treasurer if a significant risk issue or internal control breach occurs. If possible, provide a solution or recommendations for any such issue.
Professional Qualifications :
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related FieldFive or more years of progressive non-profit accounting experienceTransparent & high-integrity leadershipProficient with nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud) & Microsoft Excel; strong technical & analytical skills.Experience in budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, & reporting.Unwavering commitment to quality programs & data-driven program evaluationStrong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, & task facilitation.Oversee payroll & benefits administration for organization staff.Mentor, supervise, & develop finance & accounting team members; foster a culture of continuous learning & improvement.Ability to convey a vision of CIVOCs strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, the community, & donors.Strong written & verbal communication skills; a persuasive & passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal & multidisciplinary project skills.Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, & self-directedDemonstrated ability to oversee & collaborate with staff.Strong public speaking ability
