Description :
The Theatrical Shop Carpenter (Manufacturing Technician) is responsible for the construction and fabrication of scenery and props as required for production.
Using technical drawings supplied by the Technical Director, the shop carpenter must accurately produce and finish projects on a timely basis.
The care and cleanup of the shop, shop tools and set storage must be maintained. The Carpenter should contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
This is a full-time position (Typical hours are 7 AM-3 PM).

Responsibilities and functions of the role :
- Knowledge of wide range of tools & materials as well as experience and proficiency in a variety of welding, woodworking & carpentry techniques
- The ability to read working technical drawings
- Ability to effectively communicate both to ask informed questions and relay information to others.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be able to kneel, twist, bend and be able to lift a minimum of 70 lbs on a regular basis.
- Must be capable of responsible judgment and mature interpersonal relationships.
- Operate pneumatic tools such as drills, impact wrenches to assist in assembly operations.
- Use non-power tools such as; caulking guns, screwdrivers, utility knives, wrenches and tape measures.
- Cut wood or metals to specific to specified lengths using a variety of saws, shears and cutters.
- Operate a CNC machine, pneumatic punch and shear, welding, table saw
- Reference is a must
- Operate a spray gun in the application of contact cement to upholstery foam.
- Stain / Seal / Glue various materials including plastics & wood
- Fasten parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets or fasteners.
- Carry materials and cumbersome sheet goods of moderate to heavy weight.
- Load / unload trucks and store material in warehouse.
- Package Fragile / Delicate Materials to ship to customer
- Communicate effectively with team when assembly is complete and ready for next phase
- Maintain a clean and safe work space.
- Produce a quality product with attention to detail
- Ensure orders maintain internal schedule to keep pace to be on time to customer.
- Able to read and interpret written orders drawings, and labels which may contain hazardous warnings and cautions.
- Must be a fast learner and willing to move swiftly
- Work as a Team to assist other employees in any of the above tasks.
- Follow directions from manager and functional lead to complete daily tasks.
Requirements :
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Forklift Certified a plus
- Must be able to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as needed, and work any shift during times of high volume
- Typical Operating Hours are 7 AM - 3 PM Monday-Friday
- Management of inventory and shipping experience preferred
- Must be able to speak, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to positively interact with others on a daily basis and be open to constructive criticism.
- Time Management, attention to detail, and organization
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Quest-related computer programs.
- Maintain a professional appearance, with no visible tattoos or piercings
- Must be able to problem solve and prioritize needs on a daily basis.
Driver Requirements :
- Possess a valid, unexpired drivers license
- Submit to an annual driving record review (No DUIs, etc).
- This position is required to pass a DOT physical. Must be able to pass written and practical driving tests.
- Must be able to drive all company vehicles, including medium-duty trucks.
Physical Demands :
- This job operates in a manufacturing environment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The team member frequently is required to stand (sometimes for extended periods); walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel;
and reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 70 pounds.
- The team member may, at times, sit, bend, stoop, squat, and reach overhead.
- The team member is expected to perform repetitive tasks using their hands, and have the ability to climb ladders.
