Med / Surg RN Job Details

Location : Winston-Salem, NC 27157 (North Carolina nursing jobs)

Facility : Comprehensive Cancer Center – 40-bed unit

Assignment Type : 13-week travel nursing contract (Start : 9 / 15 / 2025 – End : 12 / 13 / 2025)

Shift : 12-hour night shifts (6 : 30pm – 7 : 00am)

Hours : 36 guaranteed hours per week

Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1570-$1680

Weekend Rotation : Every other weekend

Holiday Coverage : Travelers work 75% of holidays

Scrub Color : Royal Blue

Parking : Free, on-site parking

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (North Carolina or compact state)

Minimum 1 year of recent Med / Surg or Telemetry RN experience (Oncology nursing experience preferred)

BLS and ACLS certifications required

NIHSS certification (Resource Team requirement)

ONS and OCN certifications preferred

Skills in port access, blood product administration, electrolyte management, end-of-life care, pain and symptom management, PIV starts, and cardiac rhythm interpretation

Epic EMR experience preferred

Med / Surg RN Responsibilities

Provide high-quality nursing care to hematology and oncology patients, including those with leukemia and patients requiring symptom management or end-of-life care

Manage a patient load of 4-5 patients per shift, depending on acuity

Perform port access, administer blood products, and manage electrolyte imbalances

Deliver pain and symptom management, including palliative and end-of-life care

Initiate PIV starts and interpret cardiac rhythms

Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and other clinical support staff

Float within the cancer center and to other med-surg units as needed

Verify telemetry strips each shift

Utilize Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
