Description :
Must have Level 1 trauma experience.
50-mile radius rule applies.
A driver’s license is required.
Medical solutions pre-screens candidates.
If clinical recommends, the application will be sent for manager approval.
No second interviews are conducted.
Candidates must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance.
Travel teams must have their own vehicles.
Natural hair color is required with no facial piercings.
Men must be clean-shaven for fit test.
Candidates must complete a pass / fail exam on the first day of orientation.
All nurses are expected to complete a skills lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.
Exceptions apply for specific units.
Travelers going to the facility must demonstrate competency in maintaining sterile fields.
The hospital expects competence in these areas, as these nursing skills are performed frequently.
If a candidate indicates a lack of competency in these areas, they may not be a good fit.
In addition to skills lab, training will include lifts, restraints, and wound care.
These additional trainings are educational and may differ from facility to facility.
The unit has a total of 18 beds.
The nurse-patient ratio is 3 : 1.
The electronic medical record system used is Cerner, which is required.
Charge nurses may take patients if needed.
Nurse aides are available.
Minimum of 2 weekends per month is required.
Working on holidays may be required based on the needs of the unit.
Scrub color for the unit is navy.
Nurses are required to interpret telemetry.
BiPAP is available for ventilation support.
An IV team is available for difficult IV sticks.
Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.
Shifts are from 7 PM to 7 AM.
Perm staff self-schedules; travelers will be scheduled where needed.
Floating to other telemetry or medical-surgical units may be required.
There is a specific orientation process consisting of 2 shifts.
Common diagnoses in this unit include post-catheterization patients, acute coronary syndrome, and congestive heart failure.
The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
The charting system in use is Cerner.
