Position : Project Accountant
Location : Annapolis Junction, MD 20701
Schedule : Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 AM – 5 : 00 PM
Position Type : Full-Time, On-Site
Salary : $60,000-$75,000 / yr.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the financial management of construction projects throughout their lifecycle. This role is responsible for accurate job costing, contract billing, financial controls, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, excellent organizational skills, and a collaborative approach while working closely with Project Managers, Operations, and the Finance team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Financial Setup & Controls
- Set up and maintain project budgets, cost codes, and financial structures within the company ERP / accounting system.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, billing requirements, approved budgets, and cost-control standards.
- Monitor project costs, labor, equipment utilization, subcontractor commitments, and material expenditures.
- Prepare monthly project cost summary reports and maintain accurate work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
Billing & Documentation
Update monthly billing information within the ERP system.Review and process subcontractor and vendor invoices, change orders, and pay applications for accuracy and compliance.Track pending and approved change orders and coordinate updates with Project Managers.Financial Reporting & Support
Assist with month-end close activities related to assigned projects.Analyze project budget variances and cost overruns.Support project AP / AR functions, including communication with subcontractors, vendors, and customers to resolve invoice and billing inquiries.Provide ad hoc financial analysis and management reporting as needed.Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.3–5 years of relevant project accounting experience.Strong understanding of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and construction billing methods (e.g., AIA billing).Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and construction ERP / accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, CMiC, Procore Financials, or similar).Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to support multiple Project Managers.Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Must be able to commute to Annapolis Junction, MD 20701Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.Preferred Qualifications
Construction industry experience.Certification in Construction Accounting (CCA) or equivalent.Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP).Project Management-related certifications (e.g., CAPM, PMP) beneficial.Training or certification in AIA billing, job cost accounting, or ERP construction systems.Benefits
