Description : Position Summary
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for providing patient care services by performing US exams when in a safe and productive manner that prioritizes patient safety and information security.
Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrates behaviors that reflect Tower’s core values of quality, safety, teamwork, accountability, integrity, and respect.
- Warms up US machines in the morning upon arrival to work and ensures that machines are in good working order.
- Prepares work areas and materials as necessary for the completion of exams. Ensures that US rooms are stocked with sufficient supplies for all exams scheduled for that day.
- Discusses procedures with patients and answers any questions patients may have.
- Performs all diagnostic ultrasound exams in a safe manner in accordance with standard protocol and procedures and selects the appropriate equipment for use in the general ultrasound exams to obtain images required for ordered exam.
- Manages patient schedules.
- Maintains monthly log of sterile technique for vaginal probe.
- Demonstrates ability to perform diagnostic imaging exams for general ultrasound departments as outlined in the department protocols, including abdomen, gynecologic, small parts, vascular studies and FNA of soft tissue. Assists in the performance of invasive procedures with proper sterile technique followed.
- Enters test data and patient information into the machine if not available in the system work list. Provides a technologist summary in the PAC’S system that includes pertinent data acquired necessary for physician exam interpretation.
- Consistently uses patient identifiers before performing an exam.
- Maintains and advances skills through continuing education to improve scanning skills and increase technical knowledge in the general ultrasound scanning field to improve patient care.
- Meets regulatory requirements for certification renewal and complies with Tower’s in-services training, attendance, punctuality, uniform and dress code.
- Maintains utmost confidentiality in handling company and sensitive patient information, documents and films / CDs. Meets all requirements for confidential information management, including access and distribution controls, password policies, HIPAA and CPI compliance, secure filing and disposal, and records retention and storage.

Education and Experience
Education – High school diploma or GED; completion of an ARDMS approved training program to meet registry requirements for application with ARDMS.Work Experience – 1 to 3 years of related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience as an Ultrasound Technologist and Vascular experience.Certifications and Licensures – Current ARDMS certification; current BLS provide card.Medical – Strong working knowledge of medical terminology and cross sectional anatomy.Equipment – Ultrasound equipment.Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of blood borne pathogen requirements.Ability to perform ultrasound exams in general ultrasound and vascular experience to include abdomen, pelvic, vascular FNA soft tissue and small parts and assist physician invasive exams.Ability to work flexible schedules as needed and work overtime when requested and authorized.Strong organizational skills; Problem solving skills and basic computer skills, strong communication skills.Demonstrates skills required to competently perform vascular sonography exams.Physical Requirements and Exposures
Frequent standing, walking and sitting, occasional bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching.Hand and finger mobility for use of reaching and manipulating keyboards and other imaging equipment.Occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 30 pounds.Clear hearing and speaking voice sufficient for face-to face and telephonic communications.Clear vision, with or without correction, for near and far work, sufficient to operate office and medical equipment. Color vision is required.Exposure to potential hazards : radiation-emitting equipment, extreme heat or cold, chemicals, bio-hazard waste and sharp instruments.Noise level : typical of an office environment and medical clinic.Additional Information
Must be willing to work overtime when requested and authorized.Responsible for completion of continuing education credits sufficient to retain current licensure, when relevant, at own cost and on own time.
