Responsibilities

We're hiring a Bookkeeper to support daily operations at an affordable multifamily community in Chelsea, Manhattan. In this role you will handle AP / AR, rent postings, vendor invoicing, bank reconciliations, and month-end close while keeping files audit-ready and collaborating with the onsite team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Maintain accurate records while making a difference in your community.
- Ensure your property's ledgers are always audit ready and financially sound.
- Set up, maintain and process all property invoices while maintaining financial records.
- Ensure accurate resident billing including processing of charges.
- Process resident financial information through the property management system.
- Review and confirm accuracy of accounts receivable monthly reports including resident histories, securities, tenant charge listings and rent rolls.
- Maintain accounts payable and forward properly coded invoices to Community Manager.
- Process and submit monthly HAP voucher for section 8 programs, including monthly interim recertification and gross rent charges.
- Administer and maintain appropriate documentation for financial incentives as needed.
- Available to work on-site, Monday-Friday 8 : 30AM - 5PM

$24.04 - $31.25 / hourAnnual Performance BonusThis range is provided as a general guideline and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary depending on a variety of factors, including the candidate's qualifications, geographical location, and the specific responsibilities of the role. In addition to salary, this position may be eligible for performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Final compensation offers will be determined following a thorough assessment of the candidate's background and the requirements of the position.
Qualifications
1+ year of bookkeeper or AP / AR experience.High school diploma or equivalent (GED).Working knowledge of basic accounting (debits / credits, accruals, GAAP basics).Proficiency with Excel (vlookups / sumifs / pivots) and standard office tools.Experience with AP / AR : invoice entry, coding, 3-way match, vendor setup, W-9 / 1099 tracking, bank / credit card reconciliations and cash receipt posting.Journal entries and support for month-end close.Experience in multifamily or affordable housing experience a plus.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort learning property systems.A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a passion for creating great living experiences.Strong customer service, verbal and written communication, and time-management skills.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate sensitive issues professionally.Demonstrates accountability and reliability by taking full ownership of projects and outcomes, prioritizing precision and attention to detail, and approaching challenges with grit, resilience, and proactive problem-solving, while continuously engaging in learning and development to enhance performance; fosters collaboration and a resident-centered environment, ensuring empathy, respect, and cross-functional success in all interactions.Overview
