Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Performs professional tax audits of sales, use, lodgers, and occupational privilege taxesRecommends that taxpayers be audited; evaluates taxpayers' accounting systems, internal controls, availability, volume of records, type of industry, and other factorsRecognizes different accounting systems and compiles tax information from incomplete recordsIndependently implements and refines systems and processes for in-depth auditing analysis, ensuring auditing practices meet General Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)Maintains current overall knowledge and in-depth specific knowledge of evolving, complex Generally Accepted Auditing Principles (GAAP), and applicable state and federal lawsIndependently prepares and directs specific areas of preparation for the auditing of complex businessesTakes a lead role, providing specific direction and guidance to staff in performing complicated and intricate compliance auditsPresents evidence and testimony as neededPerforms additional duties as assignedThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education : A bachelor's degree in accounting that includes computer software applications, organizational analysis, and economicsExperience : At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in sales and use tax auditing experience involving complex spreadsheet applications.Abilities : Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of auditing; personal computers and related spreadsheet software applications, and knowledge of automated financial systems.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with taxpayers, citizens, and other co-workersHandle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacyCommunicate effectively both orally and in writingEstablish and fulfill goals and objectivesDevelop and implement complex sales, use, lodgers, and opt audits; understand and apply City of Aurora tax code and knowledge of state and federal laws as they pertain to sales and use tax, and direct other auditors in a lead roleDevelop / manage complex audits.Skills : Strong interpersonal, analytical, written, and oral communication skills.Advanced skill in the use of computers with spreadsheet design, database programming, and word processing software applications.Licenses and Certifications Required : Colorado driver's license with a good driving history and current automobile insurance.
Working Conditions
