Description :
The Cath Lab Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide professional nursing care.
This role incorporates patient-family centered care principles.
The nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader.
The position involves working within a multidisciplinary team environment.
The nurse demonstrates specialized care within the cath lab and across the care continuum (Pre / Intra / Post Lab).
Critical thinking and excellent communication skills are essential.
Essential Functions :
The nurse applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge needs of the patient / family / significant other.
Core Concepts of Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) are utilized in practice.
The role recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient / family partnerships on patient outcomes.
Collaboration with patient / family input and goals is fundamental in planning care.
Quality care is provided that meets or exceeds expectations for value, including core measures and patient experience.
Special needs of individuals, including age-related and cultural-related needs, are considered when providing assistance.
The roles of the interdisciplinary team, patient, and family care partners are recognized and utilized appropriately in planning patient care.
Delegating appropriate tasks as needed is part of the responsibility.
The nurse demonstrates knowledge of and competently performs technical procedures and uses equipment properly.
Timely, accurate, and concise documentation in the patient record is required.
The nurse develops teaching strategies for patient / family and documents education appropriately in the health record.
Leadership in the professional practice setting is demonstrated, with responsibility for ongoing personal education and mentoring peers.
Staying updated with current health system initiatives is important.
Participation in department-based activities, staff meetings, and committees is required.
Active participation in handoffs of care, including the patient, family, and partners in care, is necessary.
Cultural traditions and lore of the community served are understood and embraced.
Duties may vary based on the invasive cardiology or vascular service being provided.
Medication administration, including sedatives / analgesics, is supported by policy.
Monitoring patient responses to drug treatments is part of the role.
Qualifications :
Required : Associate's Degree - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate's degree or equivalent.
Required : Bachelor's Degree - B.S.N., or M.S.N., or DNP / PhD. New graduate / nurse with less than one (1) year experience requires enrollment in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure date.
Preferred : Critical Care, Cath Lab, or Procedural / OR experience, with a minimum of one (1) year.
Required : Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state.
Required : Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Physical Demands :
The role involves various physical demands related to lifting, carrying, and mobility.
Sitting, standing, and walking are frequent activities in this position.
Reaching above shoulder, handling, and dexterity are also required.
Additional physical activities may include bending, squatting, and climbing.
