The Department of Mechanical Engineering inside the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE) at Clemson University invites applicants for the Clemson University Restoration Institute (CURI) campus in North Charleston. The Department has a particular interest in applicants with expertise in modeling, simulation and advanced controls of wind turbines. The position is targeted at the level of Associate or Full Professor. CURI houses a $98M power facility initiated in 2009 from a $45M Department of Energy grant. The facility includes the Dominion Energy Innovation Center which contains the world's most-advanced wind-turbine drivetrain testing facility capable of full-scale highly accelerated mechanical and electrical testing of advanced drivetrain systems for wind turbines. The Dominion Energy Innovation Center also houses the Duke Energy Electrical Grid Research Innovation and Development (eGRID) Center, a facility with real-time simulation and 20MVA hardware-in-the-loop capability.

Although all areas related to modeling, simulation, and control of wind turbine will be considered, a particular focus on dynamic load assessment, failure prediction, condition monitoring, and advanced control strategies for stable drive-train test-rig operation is using the existing facilities are key preferences. The applicants are expected to build a strong research program that attracts federal, state, and corporate funding by leveraging the state-of-the-art and unique drive train test rig facility at CURI.

The Department has over 35 tenured / tenure track faculty and full-time / part-time lecturers actively involved in research, teaching, and service endeavors. The Department occupies a modern research and education facility on the main Clemson, SC campus and has an enrollment of over 900 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public land-grant institution ranked in the top 25 public institutions in America, according to recent Wall Street Journal / College Pulse rankings and is classified as a Tier 1 Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation. Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with the potential to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program. Faculty are expected to actively contribute to the Department's core graduate and undergraduate teaching missions.
