Atrium Health and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine (Advocate Health – Southeast Region) are seeking a dynamic leader with strong credentials in clinical gastroenterology and clinical, translational, or health services research for the position of Gastroenterology Specialty Medical Director, Advocate Health Southeast Region. This leader will also assume the role of Section Chief of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Charlotte Campus . The new Medical Director will be responsible for developing and leading gastrointestinal programs in the recently established Center for Digestive Health and Surgery in the Greater Charlotte Market.
The incumbent will join Advocate Health , a growing health system with nearly $30 billion in annual revenue and caring for more than 7 million patients in its Southeast (NC, SC, GA, and AL) and Midwest (IL and WI) regions. Gastroenterology programs in the Southeast (regionally marketed as Atrium Health) encompass 18 ambulatory clinic sites, 13 inpatient facilities, and 24 endoscopy sites. Care is provided by 57 physicians and 42 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who collectively performed more than 95,000 procedures in 2023.
This new position is based in Charlotte and reports to the Senior Medical Director of the Adult Medical Specialties Care Division and the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine on the Charlotte campus of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. This leader will be accountable for:
This physician executive will have the opportunity to build clinical research programs utilizing Advocate Health’s full clinical footprint. Additionally, the Medical Director will be able to capitalize on Advocate Health’s commitment to establish a preeminent Academic Learning Health System, develop an innovative National Center for Clinical Trials, and establish a national procedural simulation center in the Charlotte Innovation District in collaboration with IRCAD International which will be the only IRCAD center in North America. The Medical Director will be able to leverage resources within the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, including an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center, a highly effective Clinical and Translational Science Institute and NIH CTSA program, and the Division of Public Health Sciences supporting a wide range of clinical studies that houses the nation’s largest dedicated Department of Implementation Science.
