This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position,

not to exceed 1,039

work hours in any fiscal year,

with the Carson City Library, located in Carson City, NV.

Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of library work activities relating to the circulation division.

Examples of Duties

Interact with library users to provide public and access library services.

Perform information and other service desk functions, including opening and closing procedures.

Register new library users; provide information services in assigned departments using standard library procedures.

Assist library users with reader's advisory requests; answering questions regarding library policy, including circulation policies.

Record statistical data and other records as directed; operate standard office machines.

Be familiar with and operate a variety of equipment including public access computers, printers, scanners, computers software programs, and performs related duties as needed.

Work schedule may include mornings (A.M.), evenings (P.M.), Saturdays and Sundays.

Shelving and general upkeep of library materials and facilities.

Typical Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Education and Experience :

Graduation from High School, GED or equivalent education; AND one (1) year of experience general clerical and customer service duties in a library; OR two (2) years of clerical and customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of :

Library classification system.

Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.

Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.

Skill in :

Communicate effectively in both orally and in writing.

Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.

Dealing successfully with city staff at various levels, the public, in person and over the telephone.

Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with staff, coworkers, contractors and the public.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and / or emergency.

Employees may be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment.

New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation and a drug screen at a cost to the employee. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and the drug screen.

Part-time employees are limited to working no more than 1,039 hours in any fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. Part-time employees are not eligible to receive paid leave (including pay for not working on holidays), PERS retirement, or medical / dental / vision / life insurance. Nevada does not have a state income tax. Part-time employees do not contribute to social security; however, they must contribute 7.5% of their gross pay into a FICA Alternative Plan and are also responsible for paying the 1.45% Medicare tax. Part-time employees are covered under the City's worker's compensation program.
