Summary :

The Compensation Manager leads the strategic design and execution of UNC Health's compensation programs to ensure internal equity, market competitiveness, and regulatory compliance. This role oversees a team of Compensation Consultants, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that supports professional growth and high performance. By analyzing labor market trends and leveraging data-driven insights, the Manager drives continuous improvement and informed decision-making across compensation operations. Partnering closely with HR leadership and organizational stakeholders, the Manager co-creates solutions to compensation challenges, champions change initiatives, and ensures alignment with UNC Health's mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Responsibilities :

Compensation - Leads the development and execution of compensation strategies that promote internal equity, external competitiveness, and regulatory compliance. Continuously evaluates and recommends process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of compensation operations. Monitors labor market trends and analyzes external data to assess potential impacts on UNC Health. Identifies UNC Health's positioning within local and national markets and formulates data-driven solutions to maintain competitive compensation practices. Collaborates with HR leadership to shape the strategic direction and ongoing evolution of UNC Health's compensation programs. Delivers regular reporting and analytics to support informed decision-making and transparency in compensation management.

Management - Leads and develops a team of Compensation Consultants responsible for designing and implementing compensation strategies that attract, retain, and reward top talent. Fosters a culture of innovation by encouraging the team to think creatively and strategically about compensation solutions. Effectively delegates responsibilities, providing clear direction, mentorship, and support to ensure successful execution of initiatives and professional growth within the team.

Collaboration - Partners with key HR functions to ensure clear and consistent communication of compensation programs. Builds strong relationships with leaders across UNC Health to co-create innovative solutions to compensation challenges, positioning the compensation function as a strategic enabler of organizational success. Works in close alignment with the Executive and Specialty Compensation Manager to support and advance system-wide compensation initiatives.

Leading People - Provides strategic leadership to Compensation Analysts, aligning team efforts with UNC Health's mission, vision, and organizational goals. Cultivates an inclusive and collaborative work environment that encourages professional growth, teamwork, and constructive conflict resolution. Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion. Promotes accountability by clearly defining expectations, delegating responsibilities effectively, and supporting performance improvement. Fosters teammate engagement by inspiring a shared commitment to excellence and working collaboratively to achieve organizational objectives.

Leading Change - Drives and manages change initiatives by proactively identifying opportunities, removing barriers, and accelerating progress. Articulates expectations, performance goals, and potential challenges to ensure transparency and shared understanding. Builds coalitions by engaging key individuals and teams to champion change efforts. Secures and allocates necessary resources to support successful implementation. Serves as a role model for innovation and continuous improvement, reinforcing a culture of adaptability and high performance.

Results Driven - Consistently exceeds departmental and organizational goals while delivering high-quality, customer-focused outcomes. Makes informed decisions by leveraging subject matter expertise, analyzing complex issues, and evaluating risks. Demonstrates a strong commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement. Applies financial principles to develop and manage realistic budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational performance goals. Utilizes financial data to monitor and assess the fiscal health of compensation operations, supporting strategic and sustainable decision-making.

Education Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline.

Licensure / Certification Requirements :

  • No licensure or certification required.
  • Professional Experience Requirements :

  • Seven (7) years of experience in complex Compensation administration to include two (2) years of supervisory / management level experience.
  • Knowledge / Skills / and Abilities Requirements :

  • Excellent strategic and analytical capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future trends / consequences and create innovative strategies.
  • Maintains confidentiality and delivers with accuracy and thoroughness in a timely manner.
