YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ's Office of Air, you would contribute to protecting and restoring Texas' air quality. This position is a member of our Expedited Team in the Air Permits Division. This team reviews air quality applications for a wide variety of industrial sources including, but not limited to, refineries, power generation, chemical plants, oil and gas facilities, metallurgical industries, automotive plants, semi-conductors, surface coating facilities, and many others. This unique position within the Air Permits Division will be responsible for reviewing advanced air permit applications within an expedited manner. See details about what we do.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Review moderately complex air permit applications (i.e., projects), ensuring high quality work and completing the required quantity of projects within established timeframes. Conduct a comprehensive technical review for projects to include defining all sources of contaminants, applying appropriate federal and state requirements, reviewing emission calculations, drafting permit documents, and completing technical review summaries. Prepare public notice authorizations and complete associated tasks.
• Provide quality customer service to applicants, agency staff, other state / federal agencies, elected officials, stakeholders, and the general public concerning the applicability of federal and state requirements for the permitting process and the technical completeness of projects.
• Attend and participate in technical training activities concerning major and minor permit reviews. Participate in division, section, and team meetings.
• Participate in the development and maintenance of technical guidance packages and policy memos, assist in the coordination of streamlining activities, and represent the division and agency at meetings, training sessions, presentations, etc.

TRAINING

The Air Permits Division provides training for new employees, which includes our Air Permitting 101 interactive training modules for staff that provides an overview of the division and responsibilities. Also, one-on-one training is conducted by a supervisor or mentor. For this position as a reviewer on the Expedited Team, prior experience with environmental regulations and reviewing air quality applications is critical in reviewing complex applications within a reasonable timeframe from the hire date.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineer I state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineer I series.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8 : 00 a.m. - 5 : 00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Air Permits Division.
