The Mercedes Benz Emissions Certification Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan is looking for a successful Lab Equipment Engineer who will be responsible for calibration and maintenance of all emissions lab equipment within our Ann Arbor US Certification laboratory in accordance with US regulations and Mercedes-Benz Cars (MCB) internal standards.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly calibration and maintenance of all emissions certification testing equipment within the Ann Arbor laboratory.
  • Assure that the testing procedures and equipment used in the procedure are compliant with MBC and US Regulatory standards - including creation and revision of new and existing documentation.
  • Communicate with internal customers to ensure that requested testing is performed and achieved in accordance with applicable regulations and within the capabilities of the emission lab.
  • Communicate with customers for resolution of any issues that may arise during testing.
  • Work with vendors during onsite service, installation and repair of all emissions measurement equipment while managing timelines and deliverables of these projects.
  • Collaborate with MBC emissions testing facilities worldwide and participate in regular meetings.
  • Participate in Audit activities for MBC Emissions Test Facilities worldwide as required.
  • The ideal candidate would also be involved in the post test quality control (QC) data checks and test validity during higher test loads.

This would be additional work scope after successful demonstration of calibration and maintenance aspect of the role.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in automotive or mechanical engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Hands-on experience with Horiba emissions measurement and analysis systems
  • Knowledge of vehicle emissions testing and relevant standards (US Regulatory Standards (EPA 40CFRPart 86) and CFR 1066 and 1065 )
  • Knowledge of emissions measurement methods and equipment
  • Knowledge of US Federal (Tier2, Tier3) and California (LEV 2, LEV 3) Emissions Standards
  • Experience with light duty automotive emissions testing
  • Strong multi-tasking, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Proficient time management, organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications :

Forklift, Scissor Lift, and any other PIT licenses are a plus but not required
