In a team-oriented setting, Senior Estimator will assist in generating cost estimates in response to Customer Requests for Quotes (RFQ's). They will also ensure the quality of their quotes by actively monitoring the real-time performance of awarded jobs in the shop. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project blueprints and specifications, conducting site visits, preparing cost estimates, communicating with subcontractors and vendors, and submitting bids. They will be available to answer questions related to the job's quotation and will incorporate daily learnings into the quote process. They will monitor and mentor junior estimators and ensure they develop the necessary skills and experience for the role. Maintaining a continuous improvement approach, the Senior Estimator ensures the development of the best quote outcome for both HSI and its customers. Additionally, the Senior Estimator will collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant technology discipline -OR- 10 + years of experience large component manufacturing environment or Manufacturing, Fabrication and Refractory methods and materials. (Preferred)
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Excel, Power point, Word, Office) and project estimation software.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, and attention to detail. (Required)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – in individual and group settings.
- An ability to collaborate and build consensus across several departments.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to pass a drug test when hired and on-going random tests.
- Valid driver's license in good standing.
Educational and Experience Requirements :
Strong proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis.Report writing and strategic planning skills.Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects.Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers.A motivated and professional attitude with strong people skills.Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Position Requirements
Extensive experience in Manufacturing, Fabrication and Refractory estimation within a contract manufacturing environment. (Required)Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings and client specifications. (Required)Deep understanding of fabrication practices, including material weld rates, refractory processes, tooling, and sequencing. (Required)Strong time management skills, and the ability to hold self-accountable to deadlines and prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to communicate clearly, work with a team, and present a professional demeanor.Demonstrated track record in business development with a robust network of industry contacts. (Required)Proficiency in cost estimation software and CAD / CAM tools. (Required)Experience in a dual role that combines technical estimating with customer acquisition. (Preferred)Familiarity with ASME Section VIII Div 1 and Div 2, as well as B31.1, B31.3, API 934, API- 560, API 936, NACE, AWS and AISC and current refining industry standards and good practices. PreferredStrong negotiation skills and the ability to secure favorable work terms. Analyze 3D CAD models, blueprints, client specifications, Bills-of-Material (BOM) needed to manufacture build-to-print assemblies, quality assurance clauses, and other technical documentation to gain a thorough understanding of and prepare estimates for projects.o Identify and resolve questions, issues and unique requirements concerning project scope during the bid process.
o Identify and recommend efficient fabrication practices based on Industry and HSI manufacturing processes.
o Identify what factors of production will influence the cost of the product or project.
o Clearly document and communicate the basis for estimates, to ease the transition from quoting to manufacturing.
o Prepare clear, complete, and accurate estimates based on client specifications and drawings.
o Present prepared estimates to leadership and other stakeholders.
Cost Estimation & Bid Preparation :
Communicate with clients, sub-contractors, vendor reps, and manufacturers during the estimating process.o Develop and maintain partnerships and relationships.
o Proactively and regularly reach out to clients to discuss estimates until work has been awarded. Reply to incoming calls and monitor emails in a timely manner.
o Request quotes for materials, purchased items, and outside services, or line up assisting teammates to do so.
o Negotiate costs effectively and diligently follow up on submitted bids until final selections are completed.
o Coordinate with internal teams and clients to complete all facets of the estimation process.
Reporting
Prepare and present detailed Project Estimated vs Actual (Production) analysis.Provide and maintain internal and client reports as required.Review profit / loss and actual hours for projects estimated.Business Development :
Leverage an established network of industry contacts to expand our customer base.Cultivate strong client relationships through effective communication and follow-up, ensuring repeat business and high customer satisfaction.Collaborate with the production team to optimize manufacturability and identify cost-saving opportunities.Market Monitoring :
Stay updated on market trends, material costs, and evolving manufacturing technologies to ensure competitive estimates.
