The Estimator is responsible for the preparation of accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves managing the estimating process from initial concept through to final bid submission, analyzing drawings, specifications, and other documentation, and working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure competitive and profitable project pricing.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of the estimating process for assigned projects, including conceptual, schematic, design development, and final estimates.
- Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure complete scope coverage.
- Develop and maintain unit cost databases and historical cost data for benchmarking and future estimates.
- Prepare detailed take-offs for all trades and ensure quantity accuracy.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, client presentations, and project handover discussions.
- Ensure estimates are completed on time, within deadlines, and in accordance with company standards and client requirements.
- Stay current with construction industry trends, materials, and methods to maintain accurate pricing knowledge.
- Mentor junior estimators and support the development of the estimating team.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.5+ years of experience in construction estimating, with a proven track record of successfully bidding projects in [commercial / multifamily / industrial / healthcare / etc.].Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, materials, and building codes.Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore Estimating, Sage Estimating, OST, or similar).Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.Strong communication and negotiation skills with subcontractors and clients.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
