Pine Valley Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is looking for a Director of Nursing (DON) to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY : The purpose of your job position is to direct the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and as directed by the Administrator. The Director of Nursing is a qualified Registered Professional Nurse responsible for the development and maintenance of nursing practice consistent with the overall philosophy of the facility. The Director of Nursing establishes and maintains the professional standards of nursing care and reviews, revises, and ensures the implementation of the Nursing Policies and Procedures that reflect these standards.
Responsibilities :
- Organizes and directs Nursing Administration and Nursing Personnel to the responsibilities as outlined in the job description for that position.
- Evaluates the performance of the Assistant Director of Nursing :
- Plans, organizes and directs effective administration of each nursing unit based on the established objectives, standards, policies and procedures.
- Evaluates nursing service needs and devises staffing requirements, which will accomplish the stated objectives and standards of the nursing department.
- Develops and maintains a master staffing plan, hiring and reassigning staff as necessary.
- Works closely with Nursing Administration Staff regarding personnel issues of evaluations, counseling, warnings, and terminations.
- Designs and recommends a Nursing Department budget to effectively implement stated objectives.
- Provides supervision of the Nursing Department on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
- Assures proper handing and emergency care of residents, involved in accidents and the investigation as to the course of such accidents.
- Assures that proper care and services are being provided and the adherence to resident’s rights.
- Ensures that there is appropriate orientation for each level of staff and continuing staff development and training, so that all staff can perform their duties according to the established standards of the department.
- Co-directs the Staff Development Department to adhere to the responsibilities as outlined in the job description for that position, evaluates the performance of the Staff Development nurse.
- Ensures that all nursing staff are aware of the rehabilitative, nutritional, and emotional needs of the residents.
- Ensures that there are appropriate policies and procedures for administration of medications and storage and destruction of drugs and biologicals.
- Ensures that the staff are following the established policies and procedures; and works closely with the consultant pharmacist to monitor all related pharmacy activities.
- Works closely with the Social Services Department in reviewing and approving prospective admissions to ensure that their health care needs are met.
- Ensures that all resident problems / needs / strengths are addressed by appropriate disciplines at the Comprehensive Care Plan meetings.
- Represents the Nursing Department to residents, designated representatives, and family members and addresses issues of complaints and allegations of abuse, mistreatment, and neglect.
- Represents the Nursing Department to regulatory agencies, community and professional organizations, and the public.
- Works closely with the Administrator and Medical Director to ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to all residents.
- Oversees the facility in the absence of the Administrator.
- Is a member of the following committees : Quality Assurance; which includes Infection Control and Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Safety; may participate in other committees as directed by the Administrator.
- Keeps current in the field of nursing through attendance at seminars, conferences, and workshops, maintains membership in professional organizations.
Requirements :
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure by the State Board of NursingExcellent work ethicMust have demonstrated ability to make decisions with good nursing judgment, handle emergencies and maintain excellent patient assessment skill.Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility. Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of 50 pounds.Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.Benefits :
