Accountant II
Performs entry-level accounting work related to the audit and processing of payroll and leave transactions for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Accounting Operations Section of the Finance Operations Division. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports. Work includes data entry into agency accounting systems, which include Centralized Accounting Payroll / Personnel System (CAPPS) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). Audits payroll and leave documents for accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes. Performs routine reconciliations of employee payroll, related benefits and leave balances. Works under close supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Duties :
- Performs data entry, receives cash, prepares deposit slips and maintains cash control records.
- Classifies, codes and enters financial information into the Centralized Accounting Payroll / Personnel System (CAPPS), the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), and Texas Identification Number System (TINS).
- Maintains and administers electronic timekeeping records in CAPPS.
- Provides effective and efficient customer service in a professional manner to agency employees and managers.
- Ability to interpret and articulate agency policy and procedures, specifically for payroll and leave.
- Researches, analyzes and coordinates correction of time sheet or payroll calculation discrepancies.
- Compiles and distributes payroll or accounting reports and spreadsheets.
- Verifies and distributes warrants for payroll and vendors in accordance with agency and state requirements.
- Maintains, scans, and secures files of employee payroll / leave and accounting documents.
- Pulls documents and downloads files.
- May assist in developing and conducting specialized payroll and leave training programs.
- May travel up to 5% of the time. May drive and travel to attend and represent the Department at meetings, seminars and conferences.
Qualifications : Minimum Requirements :
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university or the U.S. equivalency thereof in accounting, business administration, management or related field plus one (1) year experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or general office administration.Additional experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll processing, auditing, or other accounting related areas may be substituted for education on a year per year basis.Benefits :

Registration, Certification and / or Licensure :
