Position, Department : English Connections Instructor, Continuing Education & Workforce Development

Type of Position : Non-Credit Instructor, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week : Tuesday / Thursday evenings from 5 : 00-9 : 00 pm, Varies hours per week

Pay Range : $23.00 per hour and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary : Provide English instruction to students who are transitioning from basic life-skill English classes into GED-level academic coursework, college transition or higher career placement.

Instruction will be in reading, grammar, writing, vocabulary development, civics, and digital literacy at an intermediate to low-advanced level.

Development of daily lesson plans to keep student attention, adhere to state and local academic standards and increase student success.

Facilitate standardized testing for benchmarking. Engage community volunteers to assist with one-on-one instruction with learners.

Create reports and maintain records. Participate in professional development events.

Required Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree
• Strong English skills
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
• Demonstrated ability to improve learner academic skills
• Proficient capability using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Classroom

Preferred Qualifications :

• Elementary or Secondary Education degree
• Experience teaching non-native speakers
• Experience teaching reading, grammar, and writing
• Demonstrated ability to coach and instruct adult non-native students
• Understanding of the unique needs of adult non-native students
