Position Description :

Title : APP Outpatient

Location : Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Sciences , Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology , is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide care within the Pediatric ENT Outpatient / Clinic setting. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights :

  • In this role you will, have an independent ambulatory practice working in conjunction with the Department's Pediatric Otolaryngology Division specialist to staff his / her own clinics seeing new and established patients. The APP will work in support of the specialists with complicated patients and ensure appropriate continuity of care for all program patients.
  • The APP will provide care for both complex and typical patient populations, which offers a challenging and rewarding variety of patient interactions.
  • This position would be based in Milwaukee with possible coverage at any of our 6 regional ambulatory sites.
  • Specialty areas include : Aerodigestive & Foregut, Cleft Lip / Cleft palate, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Thyroid, Trach / Vent, Vascular Anomalies, Sleep and Voice.

Core Role Responsibilities :

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring pediatric otolaryngology intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the Otolaryngology team.
  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and / or admission and transfer orders.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Pediatric otolaryngology services.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and / or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  • Develops and implements clinical pathways / protocols for medical conditions, quality projects, and implementing pediatric otolaryngology initiatives.
  • Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities :

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and / or admission and transfer orders
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
  • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborate and / or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and / or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  • This role will report to the Otolaryngology Division Administrator.

    Schedule :

  • Typical schedule includes Monday-Friday, no weekends / holidays / call
  • Ability to pick up extra shifts

    The subspecialty of the Pediatric ENT Program (Otolaryngology Program) provides specialized medical and surgical care to infants, children, and teens in the full breadth of pediatric otolaryngology in a population with complicated health care needs.     Children's Wisconsin and Children's Specialty Group

    Children's Wisconsin is an independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. The hospital, with locations in Milwaukee and Northeast Wisconsin, is recognized as one of the leading pediatric health care centers in the United States. Children's Wisconsin provides primary care, urgent care, emergency care, specialty care, mental and behavioral health services, community health services, foster and adoption services, child advocacy services and health insurance plans. Each year, the Children's Wisconsin team has more than 6.5 million touchpoints with kids and families through medical care, advocacy, research and education.     Children's and its joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin - the Children's Specialty Group (CSG) - are the largest providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care through their American College of Surgeons Level I Children's Surgery Verification Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, 72-bed Level IV NICU, Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a 72-bed PICU. In 2021-2022, CW and CSG had six specialties ranked by US News & World Report : cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and pulmonology. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG providers had 220,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 67,000 emergency department / trauma center visits, and over 9,000 admissions.
