BW Industrial Construction is seeking an experienced
Chief Accounting Officer (CAO)
to lead the company’s accounting function and serve as a key strategic partner to the CFO. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements, strengthening internal controls, and supporting financial strategy for EPC and industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate has strong leadership capabilities, deep knowledge of construction accounting (including WIP, percentage-of-completion, and job costing), and the ability to scale accounting processes in a growing EPC environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and project accounting.
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
Establish, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Construction & Project Accounting
Oversee job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion / ASC 606), and project margin analysis.
Partner with project managers and operations teams to monitor project financial performance, cash flow, and cost controls.
Ensure accurate tracking of change orders, claims, retention, and project accruals.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax, audit, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate and lead external audits, tax filings, and interactions with auditors and advisors.
Systems & Process Improvement
Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and ERP tools to support EPC project tracking and scalability.
Drive continuous improvement in accounting workflows, automation, and reporting capabilities.
Support integration of new projects, entities, or acquisitions from an accounting perspective.
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Ensure appropriate staffing, training, and performance management within the accounting function.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s degree preferred).
CPA required (or strongly preferred).
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Strong experience in
construction, EPC, or industrial contracting accounting .
In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, ASC 606, and construction revenue recognition.
Experience working closely with executive leadership.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multi-entity or multi-state operations.
Background in scaling accounting operations for a growing organization.
Experience supporting EPC or design-build project structures.
