Position Overview
The Senior Design Lead will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and validation of suspension and steering components for automotive programs. This role requires strong technical expertise in CAD modeling, casting design principles, and chassis systems, with a focus on delivering high-quality designs that meet performance, cost, manufacturability, and timing requirements. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including test engineers, suppliers, manufacturing, and program management-to ensure successful product development and launch.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design of suspension and steering components, including cast, forged, and machined parts.
Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5 in alignment with company design standards.Apply casting design principles, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and DFM / DFA considerations.Drive feasibility studies, concept development, and technical evaluations for new and existing components.Technical Analysis & Problem SolvingCollaborate with test engineers to analyze performance test results and validate component integrity.
Work with suppliers to review manufacturing processes, tooling feasibility, and design issues.Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to material selection, manufacturability, strength, durability, and vehicle integration.Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions during development and testing phases.Cross-Functional CollaborationCoordinate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain alignment with program objectives.
Communicate design changes, issues, and project updates clearly and effectively.Support release engineers, manufacturing teams, and quality teams throughout the development cycle.Project & Schedule ManagementManage multiple projects in parallel while balancing priorities and meeting aggressive development schedules.
Ensure all design deliverables are completed on time, including 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and engineering documents.Review and ensure compliance with engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering , Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.Strong CATIA proficiency with hands-on experience in solid modeling, surface modeling, and detailed drafting.Proven experience in chassis, suspension, or steering component design .Working knowledge of casting, forging, and machining manufacturing processes.Ability to interpret and apply GD&T, dimensional accuracy, and engineering standards.Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.Valid Ohio driver's license required due to vehicle evaluation activities.
