About The Position

Experience :

Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct Medical-Surgical experience.

Traveler experience is required; candidates must have at least 2 successful contracts before applying.

License :

A valid nursing license is required.

Certifications : BLS, NIHSS.

ACLS is preferred but not required.

Must-Have :

Experience with IV start and telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.

Experience with Med / Surg neuro patients is essential.

Description :

RTO (request time off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite.

Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly result in a cancellation.

Christmas RTO cannot be approved.

The patient ratio is 1 : 6.

Floating to other Medical-Surgical / Telemetry areas is required.

Frequent floating may be necessary based on unit needs.

Travelers are required to work every other weekend.

If RTO includes weekends, time will be added to the end of the contract to compensate for those dates.

Candidates must make up any missed shifts during the week or at the end of their contract.

The unit primarily cares for stroke patients and also handles possible neurosurgery patients and other neurological diagnoses.

Common diagnoses include epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neuro conditions.

The unit includes a 4-bed epilepsy monitoring unit that trains nurses which typically does not affect travelers unless they have been trained.

The unit operates with a daily census of 42 patients.

Candidates are required to possess skills in blood product administration, central line care / management, and management of dysrhythmias among others.

Candidates must also be comfortable with non-invasive airway management, managing cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration, and have experience in neuro stepdown.

Travelers cannot work more than 5 consecutive days or over 60 hours in a week.

Modules must be completed pre-start and annually, with hours varying by specialty.
