The coach helps students identify and overcome obstacles, while guiding them in building self-efficacy, resilience, and ownership of their educational journey. • Motivate students to take ownership of their academic progress by fostering self-regulation, goal setting, and persistence throughout their collegiate career.
  • Maintain a caseload of students—including first-time freshmen, transfer students, and students on academic probation—and track their progress through proactive outreach, check-ins, and scheduled meetings.
  • Identify and address academic, social, and personal barriers impacting student success, providing coaching or referral to appropriate campus resources (e.g., tutoring, counseling, career services, disability services).
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and programming that promote retention and progression for students at every stage, from first-year seminars to graduation readiness.
  • Support campus-wide initiatives such as New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Rise Academy cohorts, Sophomore Academy, Transfer Pathways, and Open Houses.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and staff to enhance communication, coordinate student support, and accelerate progress toward degree completion.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret student data to evaluate effectiveness of interventions and improve services.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and training sessions to remain current on best practices in student success coaching and higher education.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in higher education, academic support, student services, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or related field.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating student workshops.
  • Prior experience supporting at-risk, first-generation, or underrepresented students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of academic coaching, advising, instructional, and mentoring techniques, as well as current trends and best practices in higher education.
  • Familiarity with student success programming across the student lifecycle, from first-year transition to degree completion.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in technology tools including MS Office Suite and student information systems.
  • Ability to balance multiple demands, manage time effectively, and collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student success.
