As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and / or decommissioning equipment under the guidance of more experienced Data Center colleagues. Responsibilities
- Datacenter Operations : Receives guidance and supervision to develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and / or decommissioning IT datacenter technology and equipment. Develops a fundamental understanding of cabling infrastructure, network, server, and storage equipment and their interactions.
- Datacenter Operations : Complies with Data Center business unit policies, procedures, and deadlines with guidance from experienced technicians and / or direct-line management. Escalates issues related to compliance or operational assurance activities to direct-line management.
- Datacenter Operations : Completes assigned tickets efficiently and in alignment with relevant KPIs per task type with guidance from experienced technicians. Seeks guidance from more experienced technicians on challenging or complex tickets.
- Datacenter Operations : Reviews Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and develops an understanding of the impact to work execution and awareness of changes within their area of work and / or the work of others. Asks questions when they do not have required information and may provide feedback on changes to processes to experienced technicians and / or direct-line management.
Datacenter Work Environment
Participates in daily safety briefings. Completes required Environmental & Health Safety (EHS) training, complies with safety procedures, completes required Task Hazard Analyses (THAs), and uses appropriate equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Contributes to a positive team environment by sharing information with other shifts or technician teams, participating in regular team meetings, and ensuring smooth handovers of ticketed work.Completes required security and data management training and complies with procedures / policies. May escort third party vendors or IT support on-premises at data centers or network sites. Reports physical security access concerns and / or incidents as appropriate.Travel requirement of up to 25% may apply.Managing Service
Maintains awareness of KPIs through reporting dashboards for personal monthly performance discussions as needed.Escalates and / or seeks guidance regarding client interactions.Develops an understanding of cross-functional Data Center processes to support partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.Completes required training aligned to job focus areas and workloads. Observes more experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience and may pursue additional training or certifications.Physical Requirements
Occasional climbing of ladders; frequent climbing of stairs and / or ramps. Prolonged standing. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs / 22.5 kg and pushing / pulling 50-75 lbs / 22.5-34 kg with assistance. Normal visual acuity and color vision for electrical work.Service Delivery
Follows procedures to report and escalate data center incidents to direct-line management. May participate in bridge calls and execute on-site follow-up actions as directed.Performs basic diagnostics and troubleshooting with guidance to identify causes of issues and replace faulty components with minimal disruption. Develops awareness of conditions with potential customer or business impact.Performs task execution planning with guidance and may perform hardware startups / shutdowns as directed. Ensures proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling alignment with safety protocols and standards.Directly performs decommissions, simple changes, and interconnections with guidance as needed. Processes data-bearing devices for destruction per policy.Working Conditions

Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components; OR equivalent experience.Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard hours, evenings, nights, weekends, and / or holidays.Travel up to 25% as part of the role.Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and / or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check (required on hire / transfer and every two years).Additional or Preferred Qualifications
