Senior Associate Director of Scholarships

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships serves as the programming source to potential and current students for informational sessions regarding scholarship opportunities at Howard University. The department is dedicated to awarding the maximum number of scholarships available to the most deserving students while striving to be informative, responsive, resourceful, compliant, professional and sensitive to students, faculty, and donor needs.

The Senior Associate Director of Scholarships is responsible for managing the Scholarship Team. Directs and oversees assigned externally funded programs for a university / college such as research programs and scholarship programs. Responsible for managing the administrative activities of the program including identifying funding sources, acquiring funding, setting program policies and objectives, and allocating resources.

The position reports to the Deputy Director of Financial Aid and has internal and external contact with students, faculty, staff, student advocates, and representatives of government agencies, community organizations, legislative representatives, scholarship organizations, foundations, and the public.

Principal Accountabilities :

• Directs scholarship administration, awarding, and operations for Enrollment Management and provide direct and operational support for scholarship awarding for academic schools and departments, partner scholarship programs, and enrollment management units.
• Assumes a lead role in the development and implementation, coordination and integration of the core functions which guide and support scholarship operations and policies within the Office of Financial Aid at Howard University.
• Works collaboratively with senior leadership in Enrollment Management, campus partners, colleagues at other campuses, and external partners to contribute to deliberations concerning priorities, modifications, customer service enhancements, and best practices.
• Provides departmental leadership for scholarship awarding systems (Banner, Blackbaud, Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), National Student Loan Database (NSLDS), Workday, Sharepoint, U.S. Department of Education systems and databases, and Colleague systems / tools to monitor, process and adjust scholarships as required), which award in excess of $175M annually.
