Role Description

The Cell Engineering team within the Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery cell designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system.

We're hiring an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Cell Engineering Design team in Berkeley, CA. In this role, you will design sheet metal components and define their interfaces into the broader cell mechanical assembly.

Additionally, you will contribute to process specification for sheet metal forming and welding operations in critical manufacturing processes.

This role will work closely with our manufacturing engineering team to define and support battery cell assembly process and equipment design.

You will bring expertise in designing sheet metal components amenable to high volume production and assembly methods. Experience with typical metal welding processes is a plus.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future!

What you'll do :

  • Design sheet metal components and specify critical interfaces for implementation in Form Energy's iron-air battery cells
  • Own analysis and prototyping efforts for sheet metal components; familiar with quick-turn fabrication methods to prove out design concepts
  • Develop and execute verification, validation, and reliability test plans to demonstrate sheet metal components meet functional and lifetime requirements
  • Engage with external sheet metal vendors to incorporate design-for-manufacturing feedback into your designs
  • Produce and release detailed 2D part and assembly drawings; define technical specifications (dimensional, functional, performance, manufacturing)

What you'll bring :

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Bachelor's with 5+ years, or Master's with 3+ years with industry experience
  • Expert in designing sheet metal components; familiar with welding processes
  • Experience supporting manufacturing ramp of components and assemblies
  • Excellent communicator across a range of engineering and business functions
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
