Special Education Coordinator
Special Education Coordinator is an integral member of the GGA instructional leadership team who will be responsible for overseeing the Special Education Department. This position will work closely with teachers and the leadership team as it relates to Child Find and will also support staff in Universal Design for Learning and differentiation
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Special Education and certification in Special Education Degree or certification in special education.A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience as a special education teacher.Extensive background knowledge with EASY IEP.Knowledge of and experience with Universal Design for Learning and learning strategies for English learnersExpertise in programs used to assess students for services.Advanced understanding of instructional strategies for students with disabilities.Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members.Key Responsibilities

Special Education
Manages the special education teachers, studentsEnsures implementation of 504 and IEPsCoordinates special education referrals, evaluation and reevaluation processServes as the OSSE and PCSB point of contact for all IDEA monitoring, notices of non-compliance, corrective actions, and federal reportingResponds to inquiries of staff, district personnel, and other agencies related to serving students with disabilitiesEnsures IEPs are developmentally appropriate, curriculum / standards -based, strength based, and relevant to individual studentsEnsures that appropriate services, accommodations, goals, and behavior intervention plans for each student are provided and are being implementedGathers and reports data for all reporting requirements concerning students with IEPs / 504 plans and other required reports (to the State, Department of Education, census, grant applications, annual report, etc.)Develops a comprehensive 9th – 12th secondary transition programming to include collaboration between students, families, schools, government agencies, and community organizationsEnglish Language Learners (year 1)
Manage the EL Program including document management, student testing and screening, and adherence to Department of Education compliance requestsMonitor and assess the progress of each student, including communicating regularly with parents and staff regarding student progressAdvise teachers on modifying / accommodating curriculum for EL students.Work with the head of school and other members of the school staff to develop and improve ESL programmingEnsure that families have communication regarding student progress and school policies in their home languageCoordinate and administer state-mandated and EL identification assessments.Monitor former English language learner students (Former Limited English Proficient) to ensure continued English proficiency and masteryCommunity Engagement
Fosters positive relationships with studentsDevelops regular communication protocols with parentsDelivers thoughtful guidance and support with advisory groupsEngages professionally and enthusiastically with new school initiativesLead extra-curricular activities during and / or after schoolAbout Our School
