Sr. Director, Corporate Brand
Gilead is looking for Sr. Director, Corporate Brand who also serves as a center of excellence and a strategic steward of our Gilead and Kite corporate brands, ensuring that our identity, messaging, and creative assets are consistent, compelling, and aligned with enterprise priorities. This role leads brand governance, oversees the creation and management of brand assets, and enables teams across the organization to apply the brand effectively in their communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate should possess a deep brand strategy expertise understanding how brand architecture connects with creative concepts and execution. This role reports to the Vice President, Corporate & Enterprise Communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Brand Strategy & Positioning :
- Lead a comprehensive audit of existing internal department and initiative logos to ensure alignment with corporate brand standards. Identify and remove improper or outdated brand assets, and guide teams in adopting approved visual identity elements.
- Define and evolve the corporate and product brand architecture to reflect company strategy and reputation priorities.
- Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring alignment between brand strategy, corporate reputation, and business objectives.
- In partnership with the Corporate Reputation team, monitor corporate brand health, awareness, and sentiment through data and stakeholder feedback.
- Collaborate with Corporate Communications, Marketing, HR, Investor Relations, and the broader Public Affairs team to embed brand into storytelling, campaigns, recruitment, and employee experience.
- Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership on brand implications of major initiatives or announcements.
- Conduct regular trainings and road-show presentations both within public affairs and cross functionally to increase awareness and understanding of our brand architecture.
Brand Identity & Asset Management :
Oversee the development, management, and consistent application of brand assets, including visual identity, messaging frameworks, and brand guidelines, across all channels and functions.Own and manage the company's brand guidelines, design system, and tone of voice standards.Oversee development, updating, and distribution of branded assets (logos, templates, visuals, multimedia).Audit brand use across channels to ensure consistency and compliance.Governance & Enablement :
Establish brand governance processes, reviewing and approving key materials and campaigns.Partner with business units, functions, and regions to adapt assets while staying true to brand guardrails.Lead brand-related training and education across the enterprise, building "brand literacy" at all levels.Increased brand consistency across all internal and external touchpoints.Improved brand health scores (including, awareness, trust, sentiment).Adoption and active use of brand guidelines and asset management tools across the enterprise.Demonstrated alignment between brand strategy and corporate reputation priorities.Positive stakeholder feedback on clarity, relevance, and impact of brand materials.Manage external partnerships and project budgets to ensure strategic alignment and efficient resource utilization.Represent Gilead with organizations, corporate partners and sponsorships to ensure brand and reputation objectives are reflected in broader policy, advocacy, and visibility efforts.Innovation :
Lead a regular and ongoing refresh of brand assets and messaging to reflect strategic pivots and cultural trends.Introduce new platforms and tools for brand management, including digital-first and AI-enabled solutions.Stay ahead of branding trends and best practices, ensuring the company maintains a modern and competitive identity.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
12+ years of experience in brand management, corporate communications, or marketing.Proven track record in leading brand strategy and governance at scale.Strong visual literacy and understanding of design systems, digital platforms, and emerging media.Strong project management skillsExisting knowledge of Gilead's brand a plus.Proficiency in AI tools and an understanding of current industry best practices.Excellent collaboration, influence, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to balance creative vision with operational rigor.Strong project management skills and comfort working in complex, matrixed organizations.Understanding the integration of various platforms, trends, and audience behaviors.Comfortable advising executives and senior leaders on brand acumen.Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally, collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.Preferred :
Background in public affairs, corporate communications, reputation management, consulting, PR agencies or government relations.Experience in a global or highly matrixed corporate environment.Knowledge of the regulatory, political, or social responsibility landscapes impacting business and reputation.Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years of experience, orMaster's Degree and 10+ years of experienceThe salary range for this position is : $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
