Duties

The role of the Registered Nurse : Emergency Department Assistant Nurse Manager at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI is to assist with managerial, operational and clinical functions of culturally diverse veteran populations of varying complexity.

Leadership is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service lines and influence the organizational mission and health care.

• Demonstrates working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards, Patient Safety standards and the safe use and operation of equipment.
• Demonstrates ability to lead and direct diverse and dynamic groups of staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
• Demonstrates leadership in the application of the nursing process patient / resident care, organizational processes and / or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level.
• Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.
• Evaluates the performance of subordinates.
• Makes recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of subordinates.
• Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
• Resolves complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
• Identify developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training.
• Serves as the Nurse Manager during absence of the Nurse Manager.
• Will perform other duties as assigned.
