National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

As an Associate Engineer in Electrical Planning and Design, you'll dive into the specification, design, and implementation of cutting-edge communications and networking technologies for our electric distribution and sub-transmission systems. Your main focus will be providing telecom engineering support for exciting grid modernization initiatives and projects! Ready to innovate and make an impact? This is a hybrid role based in Northboro, MA.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll work closely with senior engineers and managers to develop your technical and organizational skills, setting you up for success in your engineering career. Here's what you'll be up to :

  • Engineering Tasks : Perform routine engineering work using standard techniques and procedures to carry out your tasks effectively.
  • Learning & Development : Complete assignments designed to build your professional knowledge and abilities while being guided by experienced engineers.
  • Resource Management : Plan and organize resources, ensuring that work is carried out efficiently and aligns with company policies and processes.
  • Collaboration : Actively engage with our IT and third-party communications partners to develop end-to-end communications solutions.
  • Networking : Build and nurture relationships with industry peers and external influencers to stay updated on technical innovations and their potential benefits.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

    Salary Range

    Northboro, MA $98,000 - $115,000 a year

    You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
