Job Summary

Under supervision, incumbents perform a wide variety of standard repetitive laboratory experimental procedures at the full operational or journey level of skill in histology. This position may also perform a limited variety of non-standard laboratory experimental procedures requiring ingenuity, resourcefulness, and adaptability to special and changing needs of research in the field of histology.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

• Requires a Bachelor of Science degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 1 year of laboratory research experience
• Experience with handling animal and / or human tissues
• 1 year of experience with histotechnology applications
• Experienced in immunohistochemistry techniques (optimization, validation, trouble shooting) and / or histochemical staining
• Consistent attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to effectively prioritize projects to consistently meet deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
• Excellent written and interpersonal verbal communication skills are required
• Experience with computing and research software

Departmental academic operations are conducted at the Medical Center in Sacramento and in research space on both the Sacramento and Davis campuses.

Department Specific Job Scope

Position will conduct research using histotechnology applications, procedures and techniques that are functions in the Histology Research Laboratory, a research Core in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This position will assist with histology tasks as needed under the direction of the core director and supervisor. Particular areas of expertise include Histology and Immunohistochemistry, but other techniques are used and may be added as they become available. Additional aspects may include general laboratory support as directed by the HRL supervisor. Will work closely and collaboratively with other laboratory personnel, Core clients and Core pathologists.

This position is part of our Histology Core group. We are concurrently recruiting for Lab Research Supervisor 1, Staff Research Associate (SRA) 2, and a Lab Assistant 2 to complete our team.
