STATEMENT OF DUTIES :
Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience.
Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Educations mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribes need for cultural and economic well-being.
In performing this mission, the BIE takes into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of school-aged children within their family and tribal community.
To meet its trust responsibility to Indian Tribes, BIE works to strengthen education opportunities for American Indian students to be successful and competitive globally;
to enhance student participation in their tribal communities; and support tribes in nation-building, in development of the next generation of tribal leaders.
Responsibilities :
Supervises and assists in a full food service operation at a school, which prepares and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, preparation of snacks and sack lunches and cleaning of the kitchen and dining facility.
Directs the work of cooks and food service workers who are assigned to perform a variety of tasks connected with the preparation of food items, instructs them, answers questions, and assures that the work is being accomplished properly.
Responsible for the inventory and ordering of food, equipment, and supplies and arrange for routine maintenance and upkeep of the cafeteria, its equipment, and facilities.
Responsible for ensuring that the monthly and other required reports, including reports for reimbursement and under the USDA school breakfast and school lunch programs are prepared and submitted as scheduled.
Managers are responsible for assuring that the school cafeteria is following applicable tribal, state and / or federal health and safety requirements.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelors of Arts Degree in Restaurant Management from an accredited College or University is fully qualifying for the position.
Associate Degree or 60 college semester hours in food service management or culinary arts and two years related experience;
OR High school or GED diploma and five years related experience Successful completion of a one-year (two semesters) training program / trade school in food service or cooking may be substituted for one year's experience basis .
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
BIE Employees occupying Title 25 positions are required to be fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Accommodations may be possible.
A valid State Driver's license is a prerequisite, if the position requires operation of a motor vehicle in performance of work.
A valid State Driver's license must be maintained as a condition of employment; failure to do so may result in removal from the position.
Food Service Manager must possess and maintain a valid food handler's certificate as a condition of employment; failure to do so may result in removal from the position.
An annual physical examination is required. Incumbents may be required to wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and be in excellent physical condition. Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters are required, glasses permitted.
Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, is required except that some positions may be suitable for persons who are blind or deaf.
In most instances, and amputation of arm, hand, leg or foot will not disqualify and applicant for appointment, although it may be necessary that this condition be compensated by use of satisfactory prosthesis.
In addition, incumbents must have mental and emotional stability.

SPECIAL REFERENCE :
- You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
- Applicant is subject to a favorable background investigation. This is a Non-Critical Moderate Risk Position subject to a favorable adjudicated background investigation.
- Subject to a probationary period for equivalent to two (2) academic semesters, which may be extended.
- A pre-employment physical examination will be required.
- The incumbent is required to drive a motor vehicle to conduct business at field locations. You MUST submit a current , Motor Vehicle Operators License and Driving Record for full consideration.
