Overview

Quality Engineer (Memphis, TN) at Smith+Nephew. Life Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.

The Quality Engineer II will be responsible for the execution of projects such as the implementation of Statistical Process Control, new inspection technologies and their programming and validation. They will ensure the overall quality of manufactured products, investigate and disposition nonconforming product, and drive CAPAs, control plans, and R&R / gaging methods to prevent recurrence. They will provide support to manufacturing and production needs by organizing required scrap, sorts, and rework for nonconforming material as necessary. Works in a cross-functional team including Manufacturing, Production Planning, Supplier Quality, etc.

What you will be doing

  • Coordinate and lead meetings to review and implement new technologies.
  • Create testing-related documentation, including test plans, cases / scripts and reports assessing quality and associated risks.
  • Develop inspection techniques and procedures to ensure product integrity meets design specifications.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) from a quality perspective, including validation and risk analysis (FMEA, Control Plans).
  • Collaborate with QA management to develop and roll out new processes across the organization.
  • Contribute to value stream efficiency and process improvements beneficial to company success.
  • Review and approve product and process corrective and preventive action plans.

What you will need to be successful

  • Education : BS in a science; Bachelor in an engineering field preferred.
  • License / Certification : ASQ CQE preferred. Six Sigma. SPC; familiarity with GD&T and quality tools.
  • Experience : 2+ years in quality engineering or process engineering with experience managing quality systems. Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical proficiency : experience with Unigraphics, gauge programming (CMM, digital comparator, vision system); Minitab for gauge studies / capability analysis.
  • Travel Requirements : 5%.
