The City of Lynchburg is seeking Police Officers to perform responsible protective service work involving a variety of general or support duty police assignments. Additional $5,000 bonus given upon Police Academy graduation.

The LPD hiring process includes completing this application, physical agility assessment and oral board, polygraph exam, extensive background check, medical exam, and psychological test. Essential duties include operating a patrol vehicle to observe violations of traffic laws, responding to dispatched calls, enforcing local and state laws, conducting traffic checks, interviewing suspects, witnesses, and victims, and maintaining various types of records and files. Additional duties may include investigating and reporting traffic accidents, assisting with criminal investigations, and responding to animal control calls.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, U.S. citizenship, and being 21 years of age by graduation from the police academy. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply and may be eligible for certification pay.
